California artist John A. Conroy was actually raised in Wisconsin, the son of a Hawaiian mom and an Irish dad, which makes for an interesting cocktail mix with a twist of zany for added flavor! He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and also earned, what all would say (as well as Conroy) the most important and greatest award in his life, his wife and best friend, actress Clay Bravo. After graduation from college, he ventured into the corporate world and was employed as a graphic designer by various firms such as the Miami Herald, Village News, Camp Beverly Hills and a host of many other independent projects (including the creation of the Coca-Cola logo for the country of Iran when we were allies!!).
Deciding to rebel against the corporate machine and hang up his tie forever (hated it), Conroy abandoned the boardroom and headed to Venice Beach, Ca, - the flipside of the coin, and joined the world of modern day gypsies selling their art directly to the people on the Venice Beach boardwalk. It was here that he discovered and explored a whole new dimension of creativity and the freedom to have total control of this ability.
He has also won many awards for his art from various art festivals and competitions throughout the united states (best in category @ Califormia Strawberry Festival, Oxnard, CA., Indian Wells Art Festival, CA., Tapestry in Talent, San Jose, CA., Southwest Arts Festival, Indio, CA., Fiesta De Las Artes, Hermosa Beach, CA., and many more). Conroy’s designs have also been used by Paramount, CBS, ABC and Universal Studios (from the “Bob Newhart Show” to “Melrose Place” among others). A member of the American Craft Council, Conroy has been married 30 incredible years to actress Clay Bravo and has a 13 year old son, Madison Richard, whose field of study includes special effects stop motion animation, sound mixing and treatment writing. Creativity is genetic!!!
